Look for Opportunities to incorporate training into your Dog's Day

When you take your dog through obedience training you are advised to practice each command on a daily basis.  Many dog owners mistakenly think that they don't have time to work with their dogs everyday.

Dogs learn best when they are taught in frequent but short sessions lasting only 10-15 minutes each.  I recommend that my students practice a minimum of three sessions per day.  I also recommend that my students look for any opportunity they can to turn an event into a training opportunity.

For example, while you are cooking dinner or watching TV why not practice a "down-stay"?

Drop a piece of food on the floor?  Practice the "leave-it" command

Dog in the other room?  Call her to "come" and then give lots of praise and a reward when she does

Have your dog "sit" every time he wants something like a toy, to go out or come in or to go on a car ride

Look for a spare five minutes to train anytime you can and incorporate training into your everyday routine whenever possible.
