Obedience Training; so many benefits

Everybody enjoys a well-trained dog but how many of you are fully aware of all of the benefits that come with obedience training?

Obedience training is perhaps the best gift you can give your dog.  Dogs do not automatically understand how to live in a human world and if no one takes the time to teach them, how can we expect them not to be confused?  Teaching just a few simple commands instantly bridges the communication gap between dogs and their people.  Suddenly dogs know what is expected of them!

Being able to ask your dog to perform a behavior such as a "down-stay" is an extremely important message to your dog that you are, in fact, the leader.  This is very important because dogs who have assumed the leader position in their pack frequently exhibit stress, anxiety and behavior problems.

Obedience training can work miracles with both dominant or pushy dogs and fearful, shy or overly submissive dogs.  Obedience commands can teach a pushy dog to respect you as the leader while building confidence  in a fearful dog.

Obedience training strengthens the bond between dogs and the people who love them by opening lines of communication and fostering cooperation.

Last but not least, obedience training gives dogs a much needed outlet for stress, excess energy and boredom.  Just giving a dog's busy mind something productive to focus on can have dramatic effects on the dog's behavior.
