What If The Animal Is
Interruptingthe Normal Business
Activities by Behaving Aggressively or
Demonstrating Other Poor
Behavior?
ØIf the
animal is growling at patrons, lifting its leg, barking inappropriately, or
displaying any other poor behavior, the handler can quietly be asked to remove
the animal from the premises.
ØIf the dog is not clearly identified as a service animal via equipment,
such as a harness or vest, then staff may
ask only the following questions to
determine if the animal is a Service Animal:
1.“Is this a
service animal?”
2.“What tasks
does this animal provide for you?”
ØThe
Department of Justice does ask the business staff/manager to determine if the
handler needs assistance in completing the tasks without the service animal on
the premises.
ØThe
business staff/manager is encouraged to document the incident clearly and
thoroughly.Suspected fraudulent use of
a service animal can be reported to local, state, or federal law enforcement
agencies.
